High Court of AJK: Overview
The High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, commonly referred to as the Azad Kashmir High Court, is an appellate court located in Muzaffarabad, Azad Jammu and Kashmir. This court is responsible for hearing appeals from the District Courts within the region. It operates with three circuit benches situated in Kotli, Mirpur, and Rawalakot, ensuring accessibility to justice across various areas of Azad Kashmir.
In 2016, Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan, the President of Azad Kashmir, appointed Raja Sadaqat Hussain as a permanent judge of the High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir. This appointment was made in consultation with the Chief Justice of the High Court and on the advice of the Kashmir Council, highlighting the collaborative process involved in judicial appointments within the region.
Establishment
The High Court of Azad Jammu and Kashmir was established on May 18, 1948, making it a long-standing judicial institution in the region.
