Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan
The region of Gilgit-Baltistan, formerly known as the Northern Areas, has only had its own administrative structure with a designated Chief Secretary since the Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self-Governance Order of 2009. Before this, it was administratively part of the Federally Administered Northern Areas (FANA), governed directly by the federal government of Pakistan.
The Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan is the highest-ranking civil servant in the administrative territory of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan. The Chief Secretary is the executive administrative head of the Gilgit-Baltistan government.
The Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan is usually an officer of grade BPS-21 or 22 from the Pakistan Administrative Service. The Chief Secretary reports to the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
