Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, commonly abbreviated as CS KP, is the highest-ranking bureaucratic official in the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This position is directly appointed by the Prime Minister of Pakistan and holds a rank equivalent to that of a Federal Secretary. Typically, individuals appointed as Chief Secretary come from the Pakistan Administrative Service.
The Chief Secretary acts as the administrative head of the province, overseeing all administrative secretaries who report directly to this position. While the CS reports to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Chief Secretary’s appointment and removal fall under the jurisdiction of the Prime Minister alone, meaning the Chief Minister does not have the authority to appoint or dismiss the CS.
In addition to these responsibilities, the Chief Secretary serves as the principal advisor to the Chief Minister and fulfills the role of Secretary to the provincial Cabinet, ensuring the smooth functioning of the government’s administrative and policy-making processes.
